This mountainside cabin is situated in the Crystal River Valley between Carbondale and Redstone, Colorado. The site was challenging; it faced the wrong way with 30% slopes, debris flow paths and wildfire dangers. But we were able to design a passive solar house that takes advantage of all the views. A super-insulated and air-sealed shell and thermal solar water heating keeps the annual utility bills very low.
